Surrendering an Animal

Sometimes there are reasons why you must find a home for a family pet or perhaps a stray that you have found .  We can help if the following apply:

  1. You must be able to "foster" the dog until a new home is found. (We are a very small group, we do not have a shelter so we don't have room to take on extra animals.)

  2. The dog must be altered (spayed or neutered) and up to date on shots. We must have proof of this from the vet.  (We are sorry but we can not help with the medical costs, again we are a small group and have little or no funds)

  3. We will need a couple of "good" digital pictures of the dog along with a bio on the dog.  In the bio, please include the following:  Name of animal, breed, sex, weight and age.  Tell a story about the dog, in the story we will need to know if the dog is good around other dogs, cats, and children.  Make sure you include your name, phone number and email address so if someone is interested in your dog they can contact you.  Please email all to muttsnstuff@yahoo.com.

  4. You will need to bring the dog by one of our adoption events so that they dog may be evaluated.  If we feel the dog is unadoptable we will pull dog off  the website and we will not be able to aid you in finding the dog a home.  If the dog passes our evaluation, you are more than welcome to bring the dog to our adoption events.  You must bring a crate and stay with the dog when attending one of our adoption events.

  5. If you think you have found someone who would make a good home for your dog and would like someone else's opinion, you may leave a message for Pam at 314-306-6888.  She would be happy to call the people and talk to them and give you her thoughts.  Yes, we suggest a home visit be done and we will help you do that if you ask.

We understand that there are times when a family finds it difficult to keep their animal companions. However, we also know that there are many things that people can do to work through their problems. Solutions that don't mean the animal is abandoned.

Every day at area shelters, hundreds of animals are killed, because they were no longer convenient, because their family moved and "just couldn't bring fluffly with them", because fido aged, and in his senior years, found it difficult to hold his bladder. The reasons people give us on a daily basis for abandoning their pets are numerous... and in the vast majority of cases, there are things that the family could do to work through the animal's issues.

Can we help you...keep your pet? Is a wonderful website that offers many solution for the common, everyday problems that pet owners deal with on a daily basis. Problems that are the most common excuses we hear from people who say that they cannot keep their pet. There are solutions.

At this time, we are not accepting animals into our program unless they were previously adopted through Mutts-n-Stuff.

If you have an animal adopted from Mutts-n-Stuff and need to get in contact with us, please call 314-306-6888 or email us at muttsnstuff@yahoo.com. Give your name, number, the animal's name, and his microchip number if you have it. It can take up to 48 hours for us to return the call or email so please be patient.

If after you have read through this website, and are absolutely certain that there is nothing you can do to keep your pet, and are looking for assistance in placing your animal that was not previously adopted through Mutts-n-Stuff, and cannot comply with the five conditions above, please visit www.metroanimal.org for a list of other rescue groups in the St. Louis area that may be able to help. We will not be returning phone calls or emails for owner owned animals that must be "got rid of", unless you can assist in placing the animal.
